'#mysuru #lakshmanmess #muttonpulav popular eatery in mysuru, must-try, non vegetarian, naati style cuisine, local, affordable, mutton pulav, mutton curry, mutton fry, chicken kebab, khaima unde, inspiring story, mysore Armed with recipes gleaned from his mother, Lakshman quit his job at a spice shop, to begin a small pushcart operation to serve the non-vegetarian delicacies of his home. Bit by bit, the reputation of his food grew, and after 20 years of eking out a living on the streets, Lakshman was finally able to move into a tiny shop where customers could finally dine away from the bustle of the street. A few years later, the landlord wanted his space back, and faced with no option, he tore down his home to build a permanent space for Lakshman Mess. A eatery that has all of Mysuru thronging here for their honestly-priced limited menu that includes a delicately flavoured pulav, homestyle meaty preparations cooked by Lakshman and his son, Satya, with masalas ground at home. Hope you enjoy this episode. Take care, stay safe and happy eating! Chicken Kebab Mild in its flavours, the batter has a flavourful crunch that could have enlivened the taste of the kebab had it seeped all the way into the meat. Rs. 90 (usd 1.2) 7/10 Mutton Chops Chunks of meat that have a bit of bite, cooked in a delicious masala that is dominant in the flavour notes of coriander and mint, and the aroma of the special spice blend. The pepper coconut milk adds a layer of creamy warmth. This is the sort of dish that makes for an appropriate side dish to taste with the demure pulav. Rs. 100 (usd 1.4) 9/10 Mutton Pulav Delicately flavoured and moist, the Lakshman Mess pulav employs a combination of the long-grained basmati and short-grained rice varieties. You taste the faint edge of the green chili alongside the mint and coriander, the whole spices too aren’t the sort that dominate the palate. The meat is tender and juicy. I loved the pulav as is for its demure character, but if you like yours spicy, savour it with the meaty curries. Rs. 150 (usd 2.1) 9/10 Kaima Minced mutton balls simmered in a spicy gravy, spicy when compared to the mutton curry and pulav. Rs. 50/ 100 (usd 0.7/ 1.4) for half/ full portion 8/10 Mutton Fry Curry leaves meet soy sauce in this mutton stir-fry, a dish created for the benefit of locals who wanted something different, I found this a slightly discordant fit on the Lakshman mess menu. Rs. 105 (usd 1.5) 7.5/10 Kripal Amanna, Gourmet On The Road, Food Lovers TV TIMINGS: 7am through 11pm, closed on Mondays.
